Neck Pain Relief in Houston Area
Neck pain is a relatively common ailment, affecting approximately seven out of every ten people. Its frequency is due to the fact that the neck fully supports the head, which is quite heavy, while still allowing enough flexibility for the head to easily tilt, nod and turn. It’s, therefore, no surprise that after years of normal use—or overuse and misuse—that neck pain occurs. Neck pain is often worsen with movement of the neck and sometimes is accompanied by facial pain, shoulder pain, a headache, and numbness in the upper extremities.
Not misusing and overusing your neck is extremely important when trying to avoid long term or chronic neck pain. By providing your neck proper support throughout your day and while you sleep, you can take proper precaution and ensure that your neck is healthy for years to come. Having an ergonomically sound workstation that ensures you are sitting a neutral position through out your day will help you make sure that you are not straining your neck or back while you work. In addition to a supportive work environment, your sleeping environment should also support your neck while you sleep. Recommendations on proper neck supports and pillows will depend on your sleep style. In general, Tempur-Neck pillows are often recommended for back sleepers while Tempur-Side Pillows are usually recommended for side sleepers. Stomach sleeping is not an ideal sleeping style, as it can put unnecessary pressure on your spine and neck while you sleep. If you are a stomach sleeper, you should utilize supportive pillows and mattresses to help train you out of stomach sleeping into either supine/back sleeping or side sleeping.
