Sciatica

Sciatica (pronounced sigh-at-i-ka) is a common ailment, often affecting people who work for prolonged periods while sitting down. Sciatica, technically, is pain along the large sciatic nerve, which runs from the lumbar region down the back of each leg.

A herniated disc often causes sciatica, by putting pressure on the nerve roots that become the sciatic nerve. Although sciatica can be painful or even debilitating, it is not always permanent. In fact, about 80-90% of people with sciatica improve over time without surgery.

How We Can Help

If you have sciatica, you may benefit from products that help you maintain an "open" sitting position, that is, a sitting position of 90 degrees or more. Sitting at an angle between 110 and 135 degrees is considered an ideal sitting position, which helps takes the pressure of your lower back and spine. Other products that can help sciatica include footrests and bed wedge systems.
