Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis develops when bone loss occurs too quickly or the replacement occurs too slowly. As the bones become less dense, they are more prone to fracture or break. Any bone can be affected, but fractures of the hip or spine cause special concern. Spinal or vertebral fractures can cause serious consequences, including loss of height, severe back pain and spinal deformities like kyphosis, or severely stooped posture. One in two women and one in four men over 50 will have an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime.
