Herniated Disc

Herniated, Ruptured, or Slipped Disc

A herniated disc is one of the most common back ailments facing Americans today. A herniated disc occurs when a discís annulus (exterior layer of fibrous tissue) is weakened or torn. When this happens, the gel-like interior of the disc may leak out and put pressure on surrounding areas of the spine. Most annular ruptures are on the back side of the disc, which can cause pressure on the spinal cord and nerve roots. This causes pain, weakness, or numbness in the area of the body to which the nerve supplies sensation.

How We Can Help

People with herniated discs may find relief with products that improve alignment. By aligning the spine correctly, pressure is placed more evently on all the discs, relieving pressure on the herniated disc. Be cautious in using massage products because you may be very sensitive in the area of the herniated disc and strong massage may be uncomfortable.
