The Better Back Seat Support is an outstanding, "classic" product with a long track record of providing lightweight, perfectly contoured seat and back support for use on soft sofas, hard chairs, stadium seats, subways, floors, and other surfaces. The beauty of it is that it hardens too-soft seating surfaces and softens too-hard ones, while providing optimal support at a light weight. It's a wood structure covered in contoured foam material. Since the wood is light weight, it's not indestructable; sit in it without crashing down into it, and it will serve you well for years. It's the best product of its type I have found in the past 15 years.

I, too, had the "classic" Better Back Seat Support for 10+ years before needing to replace it. I originally got it because of intermittent back pain resulting from a minor fender-bender. It was the only thing that gave me relief. Then, about 5 years ago I was in a very serious accident in which my car was totaled. The Better Back Seat was cracked but I walked away from the accident totally unscathed. An engineer friend of mine said that the wooden seat probably absorbed the shock and saved me from a serious back injury. I swear by Better Back, plus it's just an extremely comfortable back support. I highly recommend this product!
